A Peek Behind The Corporate Veil Of The Toy Industry
If they are being honest, just about every Inventor I know has come up with a toy … or two or three or game of some sort but never did anything about it. Why? They were usually too involved with projects within their field of expertise that they may consider thinking about toys as an amusing diversion.
Case in point, Lonnie Johnson was a rocket scientist working on a heat pump system using water as the refrigerant when he accidently shot a stream of water across the bathroom and thought WOW What A Great Water Gun This Would Make !!! And thus the Super Soaker was born.
Karen Kilpatrick is an extraordinarily gifted and accomplished woman. Having a background in corporate law and finance including founding her own company KPK Legal which built, grew and sold various on line legal service websites, it stands to reason that her next venture would be to become an award winning author of a widely popular children’s book series. Of course, this would lead her to become the Nominations Chairperson of Women In Toys, a national organization that among many other opportunities allows women members to have one on one sessions with executives from major toy companies. In 2017, Karen was the recipient of their Rising Star Wonder Woman Award. She went on to become the Vice President of Jazwings which is an incubator for people starting in the toy business financed by Jazwares, LLC www.jazwares.com , one of the wildest yet serious toy companies I’ve ever seen, for which Karen is now the Vice President of Marketing. What An Amazing Career !
We all see the Fun Packed public persona of major toy companies. Little do we realize how the actual corporate structure works. Ms. Kilpatrick is going to give us a peek behind that corporate veil to see just how companies really think. How do they decide what projects to back? For the most part, an understanding of the toy industry could give us insights into other industries.
