The Inventor’s Hero
Don Debelak https://onestopinventionshop.net/ has been helping Independent Inventors forever. I have constantly put links to his articles in our newsletter and now in our eBlasts because they are a true assessment of the work that needs to be done to get a product to market.
Little did I know that he was such a prolific author. When I found his page on Amazon I was shocked. https://bit.ly/3trTCJA . Several books on inventing but many others on related business titles. He also writes for Inventors Digest and Entrepreneur Magazine.
He first got involved with inventing as the product manager for the man who invented the first Reclining Dental Chair. Previously all dental chairs were like barber chairs. He was a salesman for lounger at the Iowa State Fair when a dentist came up to him and said I need a dental like that. Well five years later, the product was finished and the rest is history. He also worked with the man who created the vacuum system for dental offices and the inventor who developed a radial sectioner to measure dopant levels in semiconductors.
He says, “The one thing I learned is there is not a magic for licensing an invention, but a rather simple one, learn your industry, attend meetings and trade shows and meet people who can help you. No one is an expert in everything, but inventors just need to become an expert in their industry.”
He saw inventors spending a fortune on patents and then not having the financing left to actually work on bringing the product to market. So he became a patent agent and cut the costs down to around 25% for micro entities. Now that’s what I call a Hero.
